Carefully selected materials that make the most of local resources.
Leather products are originally made using by-products of meat production that would otherwise be discarded. With that in mind, I conceived of "Original Leather Capital" with the idea that it would be great if we could achieve local production and consumption right here in Kyoto.

However, because the animals are primarily raised for meat, realizing a locally sourced and produced leather product proved to be more difficult than expected. This leather was finally completed after much trial and error and with the help of many collaborators.

This leather is finished (tanned) with a hybrid of tannin (natural) and chrome (chemical), and is richly infused with oil, allowing you to enjoy its changes over time.

Scratches may be a little noticeable at first, but because the leather is well-saturated with tannins and oils, it will develop a beautiful, leathery color and shine with each use, and the scratches will become less noticeable.

COTOCUL is a coined word combining "Koto" (ancient capital) and "culture," reflecting our desire to promote Kyoto's culture and the best of Japan through manufacturing. We value the Japanese mindset and character in approaching manufacturing.

Each product is handcrafted with care by artisans in a workshop in Kyoto.

We also offer repair services in-house. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

We have staff members with Leather Sommelier certification permanently stationed in our workshop.
