Miyako Leather

Expressing Kyoto’s culture through materials.
What is MIYAKO LEATHER?
This is a material brand independently planned and developed by us, the team behind the Kyoto-based leather goods brand COTOCUL.

Attention to detail
With the aim of promoting local production and consumption in leather, we utilize raw hides from cattle raised in Kyoto.
We are also committed to developing original leathers, including materials designed to reduce waste and leathers finished with techniques that reflect Japanese culture.
We also leverage our perspective and experience as a product brand to develop materials with a strong awareness of market needs.

Sustainability and Our Philosophy
Leather products make use of hides that are a byproduct of the meat industry.
Animals are not raised or slaughtered for the purpose of making leather goods.
[Eat the meat]
↓
[Use the remaining hide to create products]
↓
[Create products that people can use and cherish for a long time]
We believe this cycle represents an eco-friendly and sustainable approach.
To help more people understand and appreciate this cycle, we work together with many partners, including ranches, meat markets, hide suppliers, tanneries, leather wholesalers, and secondary processing specialists.

In fact, we collaborated with livestock producers to create and sell leather products made from the hide of the 2025 champion cattle.
Our three strengths
- Operating Both a Product Brand and a Material Brand
Because we manage both a product brand and a material brand in-house, we are able to develop materials from the perspective of a product maker.
This allows us to propose leathers based on real product experience and proven performance. - Collaboration with Leather Wholesalers
Through collaboration with leather wholesalers, we can leverage their extensive knowledge and experience in leather.
Their network also enables us to work with various tanneries and processing specialists, allowing us to develop a wide range of leathers suited to different purposes. - Kyoto as a Regional Brand
Being based in Kyoto allows us to develop leathers with strong storytelling, incorporating the culture, traditions, and craftsmanship of the region.
