Introducing the Gion series from Miyako Leather, made from Kyoto's Kuroge Wagyu beef. Developed with reference to the high-quality leather cordovan, Gion is attractive for its luxurious luster and leather-like feel.
This is COTOCUL's original leather, made from Japanese Black cattle raised in Kyoto. We have attempted to recreate the presence and luxury that only cordovan can offer. Unlike glass leather or enamel processing, we have created a leather that combines a glossy finish with the natural leather feel.
What is cordovan?
This leather is made from the horse's buttocks, and is extremely rare as it is less readily available than regular cowhide. It is also packed with muscle fibers, making it more durable than cowhide and giving it a beautiful, fine-grained sheen, earning it the nickname "the diamond of leather."
*This product is not made of cordovan.
Additionally, because cordovan is more susceptible to water than regular leather, Gion has applied a water-repellent finish to increase durability. By applying a thin coating to the surface of the leather, it is less likely to get scratched or stained even with use, allowing you to keep it in good condition for a long time.

Each product is handmade with care by artisans in our Kyoto workshop.
