The Gion series, made from To-Leather, which is derived from Wagyu cattle raised in Kyoto, has been launched. Developed with reference to high-quality leather Cordovan, Gion is attractive for its luxurious sheen and leather-like texture.
COTOCUL original leather, born from Wagyu cattle raised in Kyoto. We challenged ourselves to reproduce the presence and luxury unique to Cordovan leather. Unlike glass leather or enamel processing, we have created a leather that combines gloss and the natural feel of leather.
What is Cordovan?
Made from the leather of a horse's rump, this is a rare and precious leather that yields a smaller quantity compared to common cowhide. Furthermore, because the muscle fibers are tightly packed, it boasts higher durability than cowhide and features a fine, beautiful sheen, earning it the title of "Diamond of Leather."
*This product is not made of Cordovan leather.
Furthermore, a weakness of cordovan leather is that it is more susceptible to water damage than typical leather. To address this, Gion has applied a water-repellent treatment to enhance its durability. By thinly coating the surface of the leather, it becomes less prone to scratches and stains, even with use, allowing you to enjoy it in beautiful condition for a long time.

COTOCUL is a coined word combining "Koto" (ancient capital) and "culture," reflecting our desire to promote Kyoto's culture and the best of Japan through manufacturing. We value the Japanese attitude and temperament toward manufacturing.
Each product is handcrafted with care by artisans in a workshop in Kyoto.
We also offer repair services in-house. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
We have staff members with Leather Sommelier certification permanently stationed in our workshop.
