Miyako Leather Introduction 1

Our focus was not only on the origin of the materials, but also on the processing and functionality, aiming to create the ultimate leather wallet with a focus on practicality.
Check out our special features.

Particularity 1: Hybrid tanning that combines the best of natural and scientific techniques

Miyako Leather Introduction 2

In order to take advantage of the advantages of both vegetable tanning and chrome tanning, we used a hybrid tanning process to create a long-lasting leather that changes over time .

Aging

What is tanning?
The process of turning animal "skin" into "leather" that can be used as a product. (Skin → Leather)

What is "tannin tanning" ?
A tanning method that uses tannins extracted from plants.
The special feature of this product is that you can enjoy the changes in the leather over time.

What is chrome tanning?
A method of tanning using the chemical chrome.
It is characterized by producing flexible and strong leather.

*Because it is easy to process, chrome-tanned leather accounts for the majority of the market share.

Particularity 2: Water-repellent leather that is resistant to water and dirt

Water repellent

By adding the water-repellent agent to the leather fibers rather than to the surface, the water-repellent properties are increased and last longer, protecting your wallet from leather's natural enemies: water and dirt.

Particularity 3: Leather that makes scratches less noticeable when rubbed

During the process of turning the hides into leather, the leather is infused with plenty of oil and finished into pull-up leather. When rubbed, the oil contained in the leather travels, making scratches less noticeable.
*This does not mean that all scratches will disappear.

What is "Pull-up Leather"?
This leather is made by soaking the hides in a lot of oil when processing them into leather.
When you bend or press it, the oils contained in the leather will move and the color will change, allowing you to enjoy the changes that occur over time.

The leather we use is made from meat by-products that would otherwise be discarded.
Wouldn't it be better to circulate it within the country, and it would be interesting if we could do it in Kyoto, our hometown.
We create our products with this in mind.

However, it was more difficult than expected to create locally produced leather products that were also practical.
We received cooperation not only from leather manufacturers, but also from a number of processors, hide dealers, and even meat manufacturers, and after repeated experiments we were finally able to make this happen.

We use cowhide, a natural material, and strive to make as much use of leather as possible, in order to promote local production and consumption as well as reduce leather waste.
For that reason, there may be scars, blood vessels, wrinkles, and unevenness that are unique to animals, but we hope you will understand that this is proof of the natural material and our consideration for the environment.

Also, even with the same cowhide, the skin texture varies depending on the cow, and the feel changes depending on the part that is cut. However, since we add plenty of tannin during the tanning process, you can rest assured that the more you use it, the more the characteristic color and luster of leather will emerge.

Our idea is that the product will still be incomplete when it is delivered, but as you use it and it records your history, it will become a finished product.

Thank you for watching until the end.
